CNG Station

CNG, or Compressed Natural Gas, is a transportation fuel that can be used in all types of vehicles, including cars, vans, and light- and heavy-duty trucks. Natural gas, the same fuel used to heat your home and cook dinner on your stovetop, is compressed and stored in on-vehicle fuel tanks, similar to scuba tanks.

There are three main reasons why CNG is such a compelling fuel option these days. First, CNG offers a substantially cheaper alternative to gasoline and diesel. In fact, in the U.S., CNG prices are typically half the cost per gallon compared to gasoline or diesel.

The price of CNG is projected to stay low in the coming years while the prices of gasoline and diesel are projected to steadily climb higher. In addition, 98% of the natural gas that is consumed in this country is produced in North America, thus lessening our dependence on foreign oil. As an added benefit, using CNG reduces emissions of reactive hydrocarbons by 85 percent compared to gasoline or diesel, helping to protect our East Tennessee air quality.

As a company, we’re excited to think about the role natural gas could and should play as a reliable, cost effective and environmentally friendly vehicle fuel source in the years to come. In early 2013, we released a Request for Qualification (RFQ) document for qualified firms to design, build, and install a CNG fueling station at our office in Sevierville, TN.

In spring of 2014, we held a ribbon cutting for our brand new SCUD natural gas fueling station on Robert Henderson Road in Sevierville. The Station is an unattended, self service, commercial, fast-fill facility for public and private use. We are also committed to integrating CNG vehicles into our fleet and have a long range plan of running all our vehicles on CNG.  Moving forward, we will continue our commitment of helping to further NGV initiatives in Sevier County and the East Tennessee region.
